SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

Our mission is to be the best cycling brand in the world, and this mission reaches beyond just delivering the best cycling products. We recognize that the decisions we make have social and environmental impacts and that we are responsible for minimizing them.

Our Social and Environmental Responsibility Program is an ongoing effort to address this commitment in a meaningful and sustainable way. Our program includes:

• Internal accountability for our social and environmental standards, ensuring that they're being adhered to throughout our company, including our supply chain.

• Training and education on our Code of Conduct, with our employees and our supply-chain partners.

• Regular assessment of our supply chain to identify key areas of risk and opportunities for improvement.

• A commitment to drive positive and sustainable solutions for social responsibility in our industry through participation in collaborative efforts, like the Responsible Sport Initiative.

COMMUNITY

The communities that produce our products are no less important than the community outside your door. Respect for their wellbeing, working conditions, and the environments they live in is a basic tenet of our work and the basis of our collaboration with other brands. There's still a great deal of work to be done but we can move quicker as an industry to affect positive change by building consensus alongside other brands and suppliers. We're committed to upholding our Code of Conduct throughout our supply chain, and this Code guides the practices we expect from our suppliers.

SPECIALIZED CODE OF CONDUCT

Informed by the World Federation of Sporting Goods Industries (WFSGI) Code of Conduct, the Fair Labor Association, ILO conventions and adjusted to highlight prohibiting slavery and human trafficking. The Specialized Code of Conduct communicates our expectations and forms the foundation of our supplier audit program.

OUR SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAM

The following framework guides action for us, as a company, to develop and maintain a robust and integrated sustainability program.

COMPANY DEVELOPMENT
We begin by training and educating our employees to understand the impact of our decisions on the supply chain. Additionally, we identify areas where our actions can help to improve the lives of workers through that supply chain. This means adopting policies for sourcing, allocating business, and accountability, including avoiding areas of known risk for issues like human trafficking and slavery, as well as sourcing from suppliers who demonstrate best practices for social and environmental responsibility.

SUPPLY CHAIN DEVELOPMENT
Training, education, and accountability extend to our suppliers, as well. Suppliers are brought up to speed on our standards and are encouraged to adopt their own social responsibility program(s). This includes signing a contract with Specialized to uphold human and labor rights in their operations and supply chains, as well as being available for both announced and unannounced monitoring of their businesses to these requirements.

MAPPING AND RISK ASSESSMENT
In addition to building internal capacity at the company, we regularly conduct a mapping and risk assessment exercise of our supply chain. This identifies which areas of our supply chain hold the highest risk for human and labor rights violations, and it also provides us with an opportunity to identify key areas of focus for improvement.

MONITORING OF SUPPLIERS
We have teams for sourcing, engineering, quality, and social responsibility that are regularly engaged with our manufacturing partners. All of our supplier-facing staff are educated and empowered to note unhealthy or unsafe conditions in our manufacturing facilities, and we have systems in place to monitor improvements. For manufacturing partners who are of strategic importance, or whose operations are high risk, we conduct a comprehensive audit, including environmental health and safety (EHS), wage and hour records, employee interviews, as well as air and water discharge. When we discover issues, we work with the supplier to develop a corrective action plan with specific tasks and timelines. Through the consistent employment of these activities, and in collaboration with our peers in the Responsible Sport Initiative, we've gained a better understanding of common challenges in our supply chain. This understanding helps us continue to improve our programs, our supplier's operations, and our industry.

COLLABORATION
As founding members of the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry Responsible Sporting Initiative (RSI), we are collaborating with a coalition of leading brands and suppliers to create shared standards, tools, and a shared supplier database via the Fair Factories Clearing House. The RSI has enabled us to both quickly and efficiently improve labor and environmental performance in our supply chain, and it serves as a model for what's possible when we collaborate to address shared challenges. If you are a bike brand or supplier, we welcome your participation. Please contact: support@responsiblesportinitiative.org
